FIND A TEACHER OR TRAINER
The job of the trainer is partly to increase skill but also to motivate and support, to push a little bit when the going gets tough. Of course people have most of the skills for living longer better already although it is clear that the skills for suppleness that people learn in their sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond from teachers or trainers, the words can be used inter-changeably, of tai chi, Pilates, alexander technique and yoga are skills that are not familiar to us in the western world. Trainers are not only people who work in gyms and fitness centres they are anyone who is committed to helping people improve their strength, stamina, suppleness and skill.
HOW COULD YOU USE THIS KNOWLEDGE TO ACHIEVE YOUR OWN OBJECTIVES?
Probably the best way to find a trainer is to ask around. Many people find that the method they choose namely fitness training, Pilates, tai chi, alexander technique or yoga is less important than the person running the class.
If you are unable to get to class then it is very good to have someone come to see you at home, even infrequently.
Different types of teachers and trainers are helpful, yoga, pilates, tai chi and the Alexander technique for example as well as trainers in a gym. Whatever you use as your main form of training it is always good to try other techniques in part because other techniques may help you learn things you never knew before, in part to prevent the great enemy of fitness – boredom.
HOW COULD YOU USE THIS KNOWLEDGE IF YOU ARE SUPPORTING SOMEONE ELSE?
An out sider is often very helpful in stimulating someone to be more active!
