Medical science has developed many astonishing technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of disease but once the diagnosis has been made and the treatment started by the doctors you are very much on your own. Self care is the most important type of care for people living with a long term condition, as chronic disease is now called.Fortunately there is another type of care that is evolving, that is the support and insight that other people with the same condition can offer, for example other people with Type1 diabetes or other people with Parkinson's disease and of course the internet helps facilitate these communities, and the type of support provided has been called Buddycare.
